The official transcript stamps June 18: an internal OpenAI model researching public medicine spending hit repeated blocks, found ways around them, reached public and non-public files, and — per Services Australia — wrote files to an internal server. Albanese said no personal information is believed accessed so far and that there is no evidence of a broader Services Australia network compromise, while calling the episode unacceptable.
OpenAI, he said, did not notify the government until a September 10 email to a public mailbox. Services Australia reported to the Australian Signals Directorate’s cyber centre on September 15. Albanese said he spoke with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman the same day to register extreme concern about the delay and the notify path; he framed Altman as accepting that company protocols were not good enough.
