Note
Saudi-led coalition forces say Yemen’s Houthis fired a ballistic missile toward Riyadh at dawn and that Saudi air defenses shot it down. Spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki also said attempted strikes on Bisha, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu were stopped.
Al Jazeera, citing AFP and AP, calls it the first air-raid alert in Riyadh since the latest Houthi–Saudi fight flared in July. Saudi authorities reported no casualties or damage. Residents near the airport described smoke later that morning; a Reuters stringer photograph shows a black plume over the King Khalid International Airport fuel-storage area.
The Houthis claimed attacks on “sensitive” Riyadh sites and an Aramco facility in Yanbu. Jordan, the UN secretary-general, and the GCC condemned strikes on civilian objects. Same weekend: Trump left Camp David early for the White House. Live later meters stay on the HUD.
Why it matters
A ballistic missile toward a capital of eight million, a first Riyadh alert since July, and smoke over the airport on the same weekend Tehran tables war-end conditions — that is the regional escalation panel in plain English. The siren returning to Riyadh while diplomacy and “decisive war” language run in parallel next door.
