The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Daily Update for Tuesday, 1 September 2026 (9:02 AM HST / 19:02 UTC) reports Kīlauea is not erupting and the Halemaʻumaʻu summit eruption remains paused. Alert Level is ADVISORY; Aviation Color Code is YELLOW. The Uēkahuna (UWD) tiltmeter recorded only 3.5 microradians of inflation since the end of episode 54 on August 25 — low for nearly a week into the pause (episode 54 itself recorded 12.7 µrad of deflation). Summit reinflation slowed again around 2:00 AM HST August 31; slight deflation ran about 7:00 AM–12:00 PM HST September 1, with tilt mostly flat since. HVO says more data are needed before modeling an episode 55 window. Crustal tilt at a named volcano is not polar motion and is not evidence of ECDO (hypothesis, not proven).
