OCHA: attacks kill 12 civilians across six regions — energy hits raise winter fears
According to the UN’s humanitarian aid office (OCHA), as reported by UN News on 2 September 2026, Russian attacks on Ukraine between Tuesday and Wednesday morning killed at least 12 civilians and injured more than 65 others across six regions. The attacks damaged homes, schools, a shopping centre and a postal hub, and strikes on energy facilities caused power outages in several regions. Power generation equipment at a utility plant in Kherson was destroyed, raising fears that families unable to move to safer regions could lack heat and electricity in the coming winter. At the UN Spokesperson’s briefing the same day, Humanitarian Coordinator Matthias Schmale underlined the growing toll as the pattern of strikes on shopping malls, warehouses, railway and energy infrastructure expanded, stressing that such attacks should never be normalized. Humanitarians were also hit: a UNICEF-contracted warehouse in Chubynske, Kyiv region, was destroyed on 27 August, and recent days brought damage to NGO warehouses and vehicles in Sumy and an NGO evacuation bus in Donetsk.
