UN: Libya signing pushes elections roadmap, end of transition
At the 31 August 2026 UN daily press briefing, spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said the Secretary-General “welcomes the signing in Libya yesterday” (30 August) of an agreement on the first two milestones of the UNSMIL political road map: reconstituting the High National Elections Commission board, and addressing contentious issues in the legal framework for presidential and parliamentary elections. The Secretary-General called it “an important step in advancing Libya towards national elections and ending the transitional period.” This is a transition-track signature, not a kinetic spike, and not an invented turnout.
