Nepal floods: 1,000+ recovered, 3,900 missing — UN flash appeal Friday
At the UN Spokesperson’s daily press briefing on 1 September 2026, the office reported that the response to last week’s flash floods in Nepal is entering a new phase. Authorities have recovered more than 1,000 bodies; 3,900 people remain unaccounted for; and nearly 12,000 have been rescued. Nearly 3,500 people are sheltering in 27 displacement sites in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts, many in schools. The government and Resident Coordinator Lila Pieters Yahia agreed to launch a four-month Humanitarian Flash Appeal on Friday.
