Haiti GSF mandate renewal on September Security Council docket
At a 1 September 2026 Headquarters press conference, Jérôme Bonnafont (France), Security Council President for September, outlined the programme of work. He said several September meetings should result in Council decisions, including renewal of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti to ultimately allow the force to complete its deployment and to discharge its mandate. The same briefing also flagged September decisions on renewal of the Sudan sanctions regime under resolution 1591 (2005) and a vote to renew the Panel of Experts established pursuant to resolution 1929 concerning Iran — calendar context only, not a U.S.–Iran combat update. Bonnafont said the Council remains ready to organize emergency meetings as needed, with Middle East and Ukraine among situations France has in mind.
