U.S. hits Iran’s Larak Island — mines in Hormuz; Tehran fires on Jordan bases

A U.S. official told Reuters on 31 August 2026 that U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday after IRGC forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters also noted Iranian TV claimed a mined supertanker; the U.S. military denied that claim. President Pezeshkian said continuing the war is in no one’s interest (Tasnim as quoted by Reuters). Trump threatened further strikes while saying this was not a return to full-scale war.
