U.S. hits Iran’s Larak Island — mines in Hormuz; Tehran fires on Jordan bases
A U.S. official told Reuters on 31 August 2026 that U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday after IRGC forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM, nested in that Reuters wrap, called the action “limited, precise” against IRGC minelaying forces that posed an “imminent threat.” Overnight, Reuters reported Iran launched missiles at two U.S. air bases in Jordan — the first direct exchange in a month. The pairing with Matthew 24:6–8 (NIV) is interpretation, not a claimed fulfillment, and not an end date.

- Passage
- Matthew 24:6–8 NIV; pairing = interpretation, not fulfillment; no end date
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Matthew 24:6, NIV
Note
Reuters also noted Iranian TV claimed a mined supertanker; the U.S. military denied that claim. President Pezeshkian said continuing the war is in no one’s interest (Tasnim as quoted by Reuters). Trump threatened further strikes while saying this was not a return to full-scale war.
Do not create a second UN-only headline. The UN briefing is a secondary source on the same exchange.
Map pin is Larak Island (estimated 26.85333°N, 56.35556°E from the named place). Not a claimed fulfillment site.
Why it matters
Readers commonly set a fresh interstate strike in Hormuz beside Olivet Discourse wording about wars and rumors of wars. That is a pairing, not a proof that prophecy is fulfilled. Tasnim casualty counts stay labeled as Iranian state-affiliated reporting. UN language is official UN, not a battle damage assessment.
